2009 Day Eighty Nine Happy Birthday DK

It is my son's 36th birthday. I talked to him and he seems happy back in California being with his friends.

The doctor's nurse called and put me on a second medicine. I hope it does the trick.

If you know my friend, Steve, please go by and share some love. He is going through a difficult time. Sometimes we all could use a big hug.

2009 Day Eighty Eight

We took DK to Chilis for his birthday/goodbye dinner last night. Probably not the best choice for me the night before my blood work. We left him off at the train station late last night. Our station is open from 10:00pm to 6:00am. I guess Amtrack only runs through Spokane late at night. So by now he is choo chooing his way south. I only wish him happiness and a good life. I will miss him.

I had a fitful night last night with little or no sleep. I guess I'm worried about the blood test at the doctor's today and worried about DK traveling.

It will be a busy day at work so that will keep my mind occupied.

Hope everyone has a full and productive Monday.

2009 Day Eighty Seven

I missed posting yesterday. I just did not have the energy. Just cannot get my blood sugar right.

It was nice yesterday morning, maybe a little on the cool side, then turned to rain throughout the afternoon and night. Overnight it turned to snow. Again snow?

DK is leaving to move back to California tonight. He is taking the train back to Chico. Yesterday we went to the UPS store and got his computer professionally packed. I hate to see him go, but, I know this is not his home. Tonight we are taking him out to dinner.

2009 Day Eighty Five

I thought I was on track and getting this disease under control. I woke up late and did not have time or energy to get on the treadmill. So the levels were higher than I expected. So depressing. So tomorrow I start all over again.

Today Linda, my boss took our team to Olive Garden for lunch. It was fun. We all ordered the very same thing the lunch special of all you can eat soup, for us the chicken gnocchi soup, salad and breadsticks. I did not have any of the bread but the soup was so good and the salad was perfection. We were all food stunned when we got back to the office and I must admit it was not our most productive afternoon.

I bought a ticket for the Diabetes Trade Show and Luncheon for tomorrow, but I really don't want to go. Main reason I don't want to go by myself. I probably would learn alot and Deb says they give out lots of freebies. I may still go...just sitting on the fence.

Hope everyone has a nice Friday night. Starting to get windy and cold here.

2009 Day Eighty Three

I found the flooring I want for the kitchen. Only $90.00. I'm going back on Saturday and order it.

After work I went with Joyce and met her sister in law Irene. She seemed really nice. She also has this dreaded disease, so it was nice to talk to someone who faces the same challenges. She loaned me a book. She works on Saturday, so she cannot go with me to Diabetes Day at the college. We were talking about going to the Gem and Mineral Show at the Fairgrounds that is coming up.

When I came home I did not feel like cooking, so, we went to King Yen's and brought home chinese food. Not a good option for me. We will see what it does to my levels.

Hope everyone is enjoying their week. Thank you for the comments, I do appreciate them.

2009 Day Eighty Two

Another day - another dollar. I am back on track. Levels are coming down and I'm feeling like my old self. I have a ways to go, but, I will get there again.

DK told me tonight that he is leaving to go back to California next Monday. Tonight is his last day at work. I will miss him, but, I know this is not the right place for him. His real home is in California.

2009 Day Eighty One

Somedays there just isn't much to say. Work, stayed away from sugar and spent the evening with Michael. There's my day.

2009 Day Eighty

It's a cloudy and gray day in Spokane today. I'll be busy cleaning the kitchen and other rooms. Everything needs a good scubbing. I have finally decided what I want to do with the kitchen. We bought black appliances since buying the house. I want to paint the kitchen a very lightest pink with a white ceiling. For the floor I am looking for linoleum that looks like old pink brick. I have a wall behind the sink that I want the look of old paint where it looks like brick is coming through. I'm still deciding on the material for the curtain for our back door which is almost all window and what to do with the cabinets. So it is kind of coming together.

I am making pot roast for dinner. Seems like good warm comfort food for a gloomy day. I also need to go and buy a copy of Turbo Tax so we can do our taxes.

Food Journal: Oatmeal with 2 splenda packets and glass of milk.

2009 Day Seventy Nine

Back to the treadmill this morning. It's a gloomy gray day outside, but, all of what I've been doing has dropped my sugar level to 147. Still high, but, so much better than it was.

Food journal: 1 hard boiled egg and glass of milk. Lunch: slice of sandwich ham, few mushrooms, few grape tomatoes, 4 pcs of fake crab 4 saltine crackers and a glass of milk. Dinner: Baked chicken breast, brussel sprouts and cucumber, mushroom and tomatoe salad. cup of sugar free jello.

Let's hope they don't have a Jello recall. I would be sunk!

2009 Day Seventy Eight First Day of Spring

I missed walking on the treadmill this morning. Maybe tonight.

Food Journal: 1 Cup pink grapefruit, 3/4 cup smoked almonds Lunch: 2 hardboiled eggs, 1 cup sugar free jello. Dinner: 2 radishes, saltine crackers with margerine, 1 pc of sandwich ham, handful of fake crab, glass of milk.

I finally finished my Christmas shopping yesterday. Yes, Christmas. Tomorrow I will get the package mailed out. I went to Boo Radley's at lunch. The weather is starting to feel like Spring. Of course that can change each hour.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

2009 Day Seventy Seven

Walked on my treadmill first thing this morning.

Food journal: 3/4 cup oatmeal w/2 splenda packets. Lunch: Salmon sandwich and side salad, ice tea Dinner: salad with fake crab and glass of milk

We had our monthly staff outing at O'Doherty's. Was just 4 of us this time, myself, Maureen, Joyce and Michelle. It was alot of fun. The owner Tim came up and had us play a dice game for a free lunch. I won!

It was slow at work today. Deb was out sick and Linda still on vacation. It was a nice kick back kind of day.

2009 Day Seventy Six

Yesterday I went to the doctor and the news was not good. It's back to the strict regiment life. I know I must do this or face the consequences down the road. So here I am day 2.

Food journal: Breakfast: 1 cup ruby red grapefruit. Snack: 3/4 cup almonds. Lunch: Leftover Thai noodle salad (1 cup) Snack: Sugar Free jello. Dinner: corned beef hash and 2 eggs and toast glass of milk.

I did 30 minutes on the treadmill....200 points down....105 to go....

They sent the wrong person home on Idol.

2009 Day Seventy Five Happy St Patrick's Day

I am sending out wishes to everyone for a nice St Pat's Day. Happy Birthday to my brother, Steve.

I am feeling a little better than I did yesterday. I had a stomach ache most of the day, but today it seems to be much better.

This is my last day off of my 4 day weekend. The only 2 things planned is going to the credit union and the doctor appointment with the new doctor.

I am going to start a little food journal to see exactly how much I eat in a week.
This morning: 3/4 bottle of water, cup of red grapefruit, 6 smoked almonds. Lunch: KFC chicken fried steak meal, 1/2 glass diet pepsi. Snack: Sugar free strawberry jello and handful of almonds, bottle of water. Dinner: Bowl of chicken noodle soup, 2 small pieces of toasted bread, glass of milk. Late snack: cup of sugar free strawberry jello.

Walked on the treadmill. I'm tired now. Maureen called from work. Lunch with the girls will be on Thursday.

M and I made an appointment at Positive Changes for April 6 at 6pm.

Monday, March 16, 2009

2009 Day Seventy Four

Here is an exciting way to spend your vacation day: Hardware store for replacement bathroom bulb, post office, wash the car, drive 35 miles north to see how much snow is still on the ground, lunch at The Onion (I had the spicy Thai Noodle Salad) and last but not least, a stop at the clinic to sign a release to move my records to my new doctor.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

2009 Day Seventy Three

I awoke to windy, rainy and a gray day. Slept in with only getting up twice last night. I spent the morning watching recorded tv shows on my DVR. DK came home and watched Burn Notice and Repo Operation with me. Our old neighbor and friend, Gordon, came by for a visit. M is now over at his mom's replacing the hard drive in her laptop.

I am making corned beef and cabbage with potatoes, onions and carrots. I'm thinking a blackberry buckle for dessert. More clean sweeping going on. As much as my arm will allow.

Yesterday, I went by the post box place and 3 out of 6 envelope packages were returned. They looked soaked and all but ruined. With all the water damage they could not read the mailing address. I called the other 3 and they have not received their packages. Hopefully they will be returned also or figured out and delivered. So, I'm re-packaging and sending back out the ones that were returned. Sorry for the delay. The other 3, I will re-make and re-send also. Because who knows if they could read the return label. I feel so bad.

2009 Day Seventy Two

Happy Saturday. I got up and paid some bills, had toast and read for awhile. M is now off to work. And the day is all mine. Lots of housework to do and laundry too. DK is going to Costco with me this morning because I still have little use of my right arm. He can help with the heavy lifting.

I have 1/2 of my DVR filled with recorded shows to watch and lots of movies saved on the harddrive to watch. So my day will be full and busy. I want to visit all my favorite blogs and FB friends just to say hi also.

Plus I brought home from work a spreadsheet that I just could not get balanced. I am definitely Excell challenged. But it is for one of our largest groups, so, I must succeed.

The next 4 days I am playing Clean Sweep here at the Spotted Moose. I am ridding myself of clutter. You can see, I've been reading Peter Walsh's book. Paperwork has taken over my office desk, clothes have massed in my family room and shoes are everywhere! Control...I need to get control over everything here.

It was a long week at work this past week. I did get everything caught up before I left. Joyce was gone all week at Sirti to train for her insurance license, which makes the phones busier. Plus we all missed her. My boss, Linda, enjoyed her birthday surprises from everyone. She is taking all next week off to go skiing and adventuring. Lucky woman. I am lucky also to enjoy 4 glorious days off. M is taking Sunday through Tuesday off so we can spend some time together.

*** Back from Costco and it is freezing outside. If it tries to rain it will be snow! Ugh!

So a little indoor fun from my FB friend and Blog Pal, Linda. it's time to play family feud.

2009 Day Seventy One

I missed a post yesterday. Sorry, no excuse. It's Friday the 13th again. My boss' birthday. I bought her a Yoga picture book (the pictures are amazing) and made her an orange cake. It's payday and that is always good. And I have a 4 day weekend to enjoy.

2009 Day Sixty Nine

It is 1 degree outside this morning. Too cold to even think about going to work. But work I must go. I have a 4 day weekend ahead of me.

It was a very productive day. My shoulder and neck didn't really start to ache until late afternoon. My boss, Linda, is a genius. Her advise to ice my shoulder really helped overnight.

I also found a new doctor today. My first appointment is March 17. Its a vacation day for me so no problem going. I need to get my diabetes back under control. I also need to fix this tendinitis before I go crazy.

I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

2009 Day Sixty Eight

I didn't feel well most of the day. I guess it is time to find a doctor for my shoulder. I did buy an ice pack. I kept busy most of the day.

I got a bonus check today! It was so nice and so unexpected. This company just gets better and better!! I am so lucky!

Tomorrow is another day in which to excell.

2009 Day Sixty Seven

It snowed off and on all day. By the end of the day we got about 3 inches. M came and took me to lunch at the Viking. They put in my favorite pinball machine - The Adams Family!! We used to be pretty good when M used to truck for a living. But our skills are pretty much on the poor side. The persons who invented this game are missing a bet. It should be made into a video game. I would definitely buy a copy and even a back up copy when the first one wears out.

I left work about 1/2 hr early because of the snow. Stopped at our bank to deposit checks and then to the company's bank to make the deposit. The roads were getting pretty icy.

Spent the evening eating leftover enchiladas and watching tv. Mostly HGTV shows.Took a couple of pain pills for my shoulder and I'm off to bed early.

Sunday, March 8, 2009

2009 Day Sixty Six

Slept in til 2:30. That really shot the day. My arm is pretty achey, so, we spent the day watching tv and eating enchiladas. Such excitement! Went to bed at 7:30. Sorry for such a lame post. Maybe I will feel more like posting tonight.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

2009 Day Sixty Five

I'm glad it is the weekend even if it suppose to snow off and on for the next 3 days. I got up early as I always do and played on Facebook for awhile and did some laundry. My plans for today, no Steve - no golf, is to take the dogs to the groomer and make enchiladas for tomorrow's dinner. They are always better if they sit overnight in the refrigerator.

I'm also going to load my new dishwasher and also run the self cleaner on the oven. I have alot recorded on the DVR so I might just watch a little in between house chores.

Hope everyone has a good day.

2009 Day Sixty Four

They fired our COO. It was a shock since she has only been on the job for a few months. I think everyone sighed a sigh of relief.

Joyce wasn't feeling well so we cancelled our Olive Garden lunch. We brought in pizza instead.

I have taken on the employee discount program at work. If you know any place that gives corporate discounts...please help me out.

I was too tired and shoulder too achey to sit for long to post last night. I instead bought KFC for dinner and watched recorded episodes of Leverage and Ellen.

My new dishwasher was delivered yesterday. This will be nice.

2009 Day Sixty Three

I found this meme. So I will work on this off and on today.

1. Describe yourself as a child. What were you like, what were you interested in?

I grew up in a middle class family through the 50's and 60's. I was a loner, kind of like I am now. Very few close friends. I loved to be creative, I was always drawing or painting or making something. I loved horses and everything to do with horses. As I grew older I wanted to drive at an early age anf still love driving today.

2. What is the most unique thing about your family?

We were a typical family. Both my parents worked. We drove across country to my grandparents' farm many summers throughout my life. We vacationed at the beach and Disneyland every year. My mother was active in democratic politics and my father was a Boy Scout Commissioner.

3. If there was one thing that you would like to improve in your life, what would it be?

I would like to be more financially stable.

4. What is your favorite place in the world?

There are a few: Nashville, TN, South Whitley, IN, San Francisco, CA and Page, AZ

5. What do you believe about the meaning of life and what happens after death?

I believe in reincarnation. Once we live our best life we reach Nirvana.

I am tagging anyone who wants to play.

2009 Day Sixty Two

I was so tired when I got home last night I just couldn't think of what to post. I watched a recorded episode of Ugly Betty.

I made a coconut cake for Deb's birthday. My bosses and Misty are going to a convention today, but, said they would be back to have cake during the day. It is supposed to snow today. I am hoping this will be the last gasp of winter. We usually get one snow in March and then spring comes.

DK and I watched American Idol last night. We are hoping the girl with the tattoo sleeve makes it as a wild card. We were both glad Julio from PR got the last seat. And Tatiana has a shot! I hope she gets on the show.

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

2009 Day Sixty One

The only other thing I did over the weekend is watched the movie Dan In Real Life. We both liked the movie. Family reunions...I have missed more than I have gone to. I'm sort of the black sheep of the family. I should go because I am starting to not know my family. So the next reunion...I will go. It helps that it will be on the west coast this time.

2009 Day Sixty

Ed took my picture for the company website this morning. I just want to warn you I do not take a good picture, or even an mediocre picture. But it is what it is. He is suppose to email it to me so i can upload to Facebook and this blog.

We had a company-wide meeting with pizza for lunch. A recap on how business is going. Changes to the employee handbook. And something about recognition. I just want to say an employee of the month program is the worst way to recognize employees. I learned that the hard way when we were motel managers. You always leave someone slighted or hurt or both.

I kept pretty busy the rest of the day...and it rained off and on all day. At least it is not snow.

I am happy to be home...safe and warm. My shoulder still aches. I'm not sure if I slept on it wrong or actually hurt it someway. We did neck and shoulder excercises this afternoon and it seemed to help for awhile. More aspirin and early to bed.

Okay are we all getting a chuckle how Limbaugh and Steele or going at it. One of my all time favorite websites is bartcop.com. The original name of his website was Rushlimbaughisalyingnaziwhore.com, but, he shortened it to bartcop.com. If you want to read some interesting stuff, see funny comics and just be amused...visit bartcop and visit often. My hatred for Limbaugh goes back - way back. When he was working for CBS in California he came to a rally that was trying to shut down Rancho Seco Nuclear Plant. He was of course trying to keep it open, even after they found the mutant animals by the ponds...anyway he was a blowheart then and he is even worse now. BTW, he was fired from that job.

More rain for tomorrow...it will finally wash away the snow berms. Enjoy your Tuesday!

2009 Day Fifty Nine

I am downstairs this morning working from my laptop. Isn't wireless the greatest thing? I have more gothic art saved on this computer, so this picture is a little dark, which is really my favorite type of artwork.

For today's dinner I am making Sliced Ham with Apple Raisin Sauce. Here is the recipe:

1 Tbsp flour
1 Large oven roasting bag
4 medium tart apples, peeled and chopped
2 cups apple juice
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup splenda brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 boneless fully cooked ham

Shake flour in the oven roasting bag. Place in an ungreased 13x9 baking pan. Place the apples, apple juice, raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon in bag. Mix well. Place ham in bag. Close bag. Cut six 1/2 inch slits in top of bag.

Bake at 325 degrees for 1 3/4 to 2 hours.

I will serve the ham with asparagus and roasted red potatoes.

I decided not to go to the bead tour today. Instead just hanging around the house, finishing up on chores.
